Q
|
What is the shelf life of Carpet Protection? |
|
A
|
To obtain best performance, use Carpet Protection within six months
from the date of receipt. This time period may be shortened if the
product is improperly stored or handled. The product should be stored
in a cool, dry environment and should not be subjected to excessive
heat and/or moisture. |
|
Q
|
What's the difference between reverse wound and regular
wound? |
|
A
|
Reverse wound is where the sticky/adhesive side is on the
outside of the roll so that when you unroll the product, it
comes off the roll adhesive side down. Regular wound is where
the sticky/adhesive side of the film faces in for ease of
handling on carpeted stairs. (Only the CP-STAIR is regular
wound.) |
|
Q
|
Why can't you put Carpet Protection on natural fiber (wool)
carpet? |
|
A
|
Due to the differences in natural fibers (levels of oils,
enzymes, etc.) we can't guarantee how the adhesive will react.
Some Berbers contain natural fibers. |
|
Q
|
Does Protective Products have a product that can be used on
both carpet and flooring? |
|
A |
All of our products are designed and manufactured for specific
surfaces. Therefore, they are not interchangeable. |
|
Q |
How long can Carpet Protection be left on the carpet? |
|
A |
Carpet Protection may be left on up to a maximum of 45 days but
should be monitored in accordance with the product instructions.
|
|
Q |
What is the mil thickness of the Carpet Protection? |
|
A |
The finished thickness of Carpet Protection is 3 mils.
|
|
Q |
Can I put Carpet Protection on concrete? On wood sub floor? |
|
A |
No. Carpet Protection is intended for use only on domestic
synthetic carpeting. Also, we do not recommend using any
adhesive based products on wood. Dura Runner Plus can be used on
both concrete and hardwood and other hard surfaces. |
|
Q |
Will Carpet Protection leave adhesive on the carpet? |
|
A |
Used as directed, Carpet Protection will protect your carpets
from dirt, grime and other damage, and remove, residue free.
|
|
Q |
If the adhesive transfers onto carpet, what do I use to clean
it? |
|
A |
In
the unlikely event that transfer does occur adhesive can be
removed using a steam extraction method. |
|
Q |
If the adhesive transfers onto other surfaces, what do I use
to clean it? |
|
A |
Carpet Protection should only be used on synthetic carpeting.
Application to other surfaces may cause damage. If you apply
Carpet Protection to a surface other than synthetic carpeting
and adhesive transfer does occur, remove the adhesive in
accordance with the surface manufacturers instructions. Citrus
based cleaners are usually effective if approved for use by the
surface manufacturer. |
|
Q |
In a carpeted basement, will I need a dehumidifier? Is it too
moist? |
|
A |
Carpet Protection should never be used where the conditions
and/or substrate may be damp or subject to moisture
accumulation. |
|
Q |
Do you need an applicator to apply Carpet Protection? |
|
A |
An
applicator is not necessary to apply Carpet Protection and, in
fact, is much easier to apply in most residential applications
without one. However, in large commercial spaces an applicator
will easily pay for itself many times over. |
|
Q |
Can Carpet Protection be reused? |
|
A |
No, Carpet Protection is not reusable. |
|
Q |
Can you use Carpet Protection on any other surface? |
|
A |
No. Carpet Protection is intended for use only on domestic
synthetic carpeting. |
|
Q |
Can I use all roll sizes on the Carpet Protection Applicator? |
|
A |
Both Applicators can accommodate any length roll. The sizes (24"
and 36") however, are not interchangeable. |
|
Q |
Does the Carpet Protection Applicator have an automatic
cutter? |
|
A |
No. For durability, safety, and to keep the cost reasonable we
elected not to incorporate a cutter into our Applicators.
|
|
Q |
Can I use the Carpet Protection Applicator on tile? |
|
A |
Due to the all steel construction of the Applicator, we do not
recommend that it be used on surfaces other than carpeted
floors. |
|
Q |
How long is the Applicators handle? |
|
A |
Approximately 40" |
|
Q |
Is the Applicator awkward to use? |
|
A |
No. As with any tool, proper instructions need to be followed
and a short period of time may be required to get used to the
function of the Applicator. |
|
Q |
How close does the Applicator get to the wall? |
|
A |
You can apply Carpet Protection as close as 2-3 inches from the
wall using an Applicator. |

Can you use Glass Protection on counter tops? |
|
A |
Glass Protection can be used on counter-tops. Floor Protection
is a little more durable and would be the preferred product. You
may also want to consider the ProTecta Top for the most durable
counter top protection. |
|
Q |
Will Glass Protection protect against muriatic acid? |
|
A |
Yes. Glass Protection is ideal for protecting against etching
and scratching from acid washing and mortar. |
|
Q |
How can I remove Glass Protection that was left on too long? |
|
A |
First, you must remove the film. You may need to heat it up (a
blow dryer can be used) and then scrape off the film with a
razor blade. Once the film is removed, use mineral spirits or
isopropyl alcohol or a citrus based cleaner to remove the
adhesive. |
|
Q |
Can I use Glass Protection on painted walls? Why or why not? |
|
A
|
All of our products are designed and manufactured for specific
surfaces and should only be used on the surfaces for which they
are intended. |

SCRATCH PROTECTION
|
|
The best
protection tubs, whirlpools and shower stalls can have against
scratches, abrasions and job site dirt and grime. The thick,
easy-to-apply water-based coating cures to a durable
"Protective Skin." When the job is finished, the
easy-to-remove "Protective Skin" peels right off. Save time
and money by drastically reducing cleanup hassles and
eliminating possible repair costs during new construction or
remodeling.
|
|
Q
|
How many tubs will 1 gallon cover? 5 gallons? |
|
A
|
One gallon will cover (using the recommended 2 thick coats per
tub) approximately two (2) standard 5' tubs. Five gallons will
cover approximately ten (10) standard 5' tubs. |
|
Q
|
When I went to peel off the Scratch Protection it came off in
little pieces, what did I do wrong? |
|
A
|
Scratch Protection must be applied very liberally. Two thick
coats is recommended. To help with cleanup, warm water will help
soften Scratch Protection that was applied too thin. An
additional coat may be applied to help removal. The product
removes best at temperatures above 70 degrees. |
|
Q
|
Do I need additional protection on my tubs when using Scratch
Protection? |
|
A
|
If
you wish to provide additional protection to your tubs (i.e. to
protect against falling hammers, ladders, etc.), you can put
cardboard or carpet scraps in or on the tub with the Scratch
Protection after the coating is dry. |
|
Q
|
Are there any tubs that you do not recommend using Scratch
Protection on? |
|
A |
Scratch Protection is safe to use on most any plumbing fixture
surface including Acrylic, fully cured Fiberglass, Enameled Cast
Iron and Enameled Steel. Aqua Glass tubs in particular have been
problematic and we do not recommend that you use Scratch
Protection on them. |
|
Q |
Can you use Scratch Protection on sinks? |
|
A |
It
is much more practical to use our Floor Protection for
protecting sinks and the counter-tops. |
|
Q |
How long can you leave Scratch Protection on the tub? |
|
A |
Scratch Protection has no specific time frame but should be
removed as soon as practical. |
|
Q |
How many coats of Scratch Protection do you need to put on? |
|
A |
Two thick coats of Scratch Protection are recommended for
maximum protection. |
|
Q |
Does the 1st coat have to dry completely before applying the
2nd? |
|
A |
Allow approximately 15+ minutes to elapse between 1st & 2nd
coats of Scratch Protection. (Depending upon the humidity and
air temperature). |
|
Q |
When Scratch Protection dries, what is the mil thickness? |
|
A |
When properly applied and dry, the coating should be about 15 to
20 mils. thick |
|
Q |
How long does Scratch Protection take to dry? |
|
A |
The drying time of Scratch Protection will vary according to
environmental conditions and, being latex (water) based, is most
affected by humidity. Normally, Scratch Protection will dry from
anywhere between a few hours, (warm, dry climate) to overnight
(cool, moist climate). |
|
Q |
Does Scratch Protection discolor the tub in anyway? |
|
A |
Scratch Protection does not interact with the tub in any way. It
is a coating. Fiberglass Tub/shower units that are not fully
cured are not good candidates for Scratch Protection. If in
doubt, check with your distributor or manufacturer before using
Scratch Protection. |
|
Q |
Can you use Scratch Protection on shower walls? |
|
A |
Scratch Protection can be used on shower walls; however, an
easier, less-expensive solution would be to use Glass Protection
or Floor Protection on shower walls. |
|
Q |
Can you use Scratch Protection on acrylic tubs? |
|
A |
Yes |
|
Q |
If a tub comes with a plastic cover, can you still apply
Scratch Protection? |
|
A |
Yes. Scratch Protection affords far more protection than a
standard plastic tub cover. |
|
Q |
Can I apply Scratch Protection to non-skid strips in the
bottom of bathtub? |
|
A |
Removal will be easier if you take a bar of soap and rub it over
the strips. Once this is done, you may apply the Scratch
Protection to the strips. |
|
Q |
I didn't use the soap, how do I get Scratch Protection off of
non-skid strips? |
|
A |
You may use Bon Ami cleanser. Do not use any other cleaners
(i.e. Comet) because they are too abrasive. |
|
Q |
Does Scratch Protection protect tubs from tools, tiles or
nails that may drop on it? |
|
A |
Absolutely. The impact is greatly reduced due to the unique
qualities of the coating once dry. |
|
Q |
Why can't you put Scratch Protection on hardware and fittings
in the tubs? |
|
A |
Removal might be difficult from the small openings and crevices
and we don’t recommend that you put anything on delicate
decorative finishes. |

Q
|
What is the shelf life of Trim Protection? |
|
A
|
To obtain best performance, use Trim Protection within six months from
the date of receipt. This time period may be shortened if the product
is improperly stored or handled. The product should be stored in a cool,
dry environment and should not be subjected to excessive heat and/or moisture. |
|
Q
|
Why can't I use masking tape rather than Trim Protection on
the tub? |
|
A
|
Trim Protections PVC backing and clean release adhesive make it
superior for use with Scratch Protection. In addition to its
conformability it removes cleanly & easily. |
|
Q
|
Can you put Trim Protection over wood trim? |
|
A
|
We
do not recommend putting any adhesive based products on wood.
|
|
Q |
How long can you leave Trim Protection on clad trim and
thresholds? |
|
A |
Trim Protection may be left on for up to 90 days or longer. The
more layers you apply the longer you can leave it in place. As
with any adhesive based product you should monitor it in
accordance with the product instructions. |
|
Q |
Why can't Trim Protection be applied to brass or brass plated
fixtures? |
|
A |
Brass and Brass plating methods vary widely. There is the
possibility of damage to hardware if the Trim Protection is
used. |
|
Q |
What is the thickness of the Trim Protection? |
|
A |
The finished thickness of Trim Protection is 6.5 mils.
|
|
Q |
How should I remove any transfer residue? |
|
A |
Use denatured alcohol. It can be found at Ace Hardware stores. Typically
transfer will happen only if it is left on for more then 3 months and/or if
left in direct sunlight for an extended period of time.
